2The memory trick
In motion? Keep it short. You're on your way, so there's no time for the long word. hem · ut · in · upp · ner · fram · bortVi kommer ut. · Jag åker hem.
Arrived or still? Take your time. You're not going anywhere, so you can say the long word. hemma · ute · inne · uppe · nere · framme · bortaVi är ute. · Jag är hemma.
The exception:här / hit and där / dit are different words, not short and long. hit and dit are for motion: Kom hit! · Vi åker dit.här and där are for being still: Jag bor här. · Det är mysigt där.
hemifrån = from home, the starting point: Jag jobbar hemifrån. · Jag går hemifrån klockan åtta.
